I caught an article online about the possible release of a new female ‘viagra’.
It claims to not only boost libido but also surpresses appetitite.
Sounds a like cocaine to me 😉
A flagging libido seems to be a big concern for women especially during the peri-menopause years (the lead up to the last period)
The good news is that post menopause, most women get back their bedroom mojo and some!!
The lack of kids, contraception and stress, ‘coupled’ with more time, better communication and more confidence does wonders!
woo hoo!!
So do you think taking a pill could be the answer?
Women are a little more complicated than men in bedroom department right? For us sex starts in the head, for men it starts in his pants!!
The theory sounds great. We all want a magic pill for something right?
Whether it’s more energy, weight loss, more sex, less stress we would all like to be able to take something for quick results.
And no I don’t mean a class (or three) of Prosecco!!
Who has time to get the root cause of the symptom? Who wants to take a good hard look at themselves and their lifestyle to make long lasting change.?
more about that ^^^ another time eh?
Now I am a believer in certain supplements and I do take them to ‘supplement’ an already pretty healthy diet (which as you know includes cake ..ha!)
There is no point taking supplements if your diet and digestion is rubbish as you will be wasting your money down the toilet.
I don’t take them willy nilly and I certainly am VERY fussy where I purchase them from.
I’m going to blog about my favourite supplements and why I take them but for now I really want to share my favourite supp for Menopause.
it’s called MACA.
Yup I didn’t think you’ve heard of it
It’s a GREAT thing for us ladies to take, one of the benefits is improved libido.
It works differently to ‘pink viagra’ as it complements your body and is a natural food.
I think of viagra as hard (grrr) and maca as soft (ahhhh). (Stop it!!)
Maca is a Puruvian root vegetable (sometimes known as Puruvian ginseng even though it’s not related to ginseng)
The Puruvians take it for energy, stamina and libido. It seems to be an adaptagenic,
which basically means it fixes what your body needs!!
“Maca may help ease anxiety and depression in postmenopausal women, according to a 2008 study from the journal Menopause. For the study, 14 postmenopausal women took 3.5 grams of powdered maca for six weeks and then took a matching placebo for another six weeks. Study results showed that maca helped reduce anxiety and depression, as well as improve sexual function.”
Now the research is not conclusive so sometimes you have to suck it and see
(writer sniggers childishly!)
A ‘friend’ of mine can vouch that it, ah-hem , improves libido 😉
I use it in a powdered form and add it to smoothies or my kick ass energy boosting, craving busting hot chocolate

It apparently supports the entire endocrine system, bringing harmony to your hormones. It may increase estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels which is a god send for us menopausal hotties!!
I use it in a powdered form and add it to smoothies or my kick ass energy boosting, craving busting hot chocolate
- 1 tablespoon pure cocoa (not hot chocolate!)
- 1 teaspoon maca
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
- 1/2 teaspoon of xylitol/honey if needed
- hot water
- splash of milk or ideally a milk alternative
- sprinkle of cinnamon
- and a pinch of chilli if you’re feeling naughty!!
OR you can buy it in a capsule form
I know I miss it when I don’t take it.
enjoy 😉 and let me know how you get on
