I spent the day yesterday in Clair Hall in Haywards Heath learning more about health and wellbeing for women over 4o.
The afternoon was spent with a room full of GP’s listening to the latest research findings about HRT, hormones and the heart, bone health and HRT and breast cancer.
It was a pretty heavy going afternoon for a layperson like me (it was all a bit dry….pun intended) but I got some gems that I will be sharing.
The evening was for the public and over 60 women over the age of 40 were there to learn more about their health and the menopause. Very cool!
These women were being proactive about looking after their health and well being.
A panel of speakers explaned all things HRT, heart health, breast cancer, nutrition, vaginal atrophy and sex.
Did you know that more women die of heart diesase than breast cancer?
Alcohol consumption, obesity and lack of exercise increases the risk of breast cancer more than HRT.
Once I get the research findings in an easy to read format I will share them!!
Sex therapist – Victoria Lehmann – was highly entertaining and honest.
Anyone who gives a talk while holding a vibrator and wears a cock ring as a bracelet gets my vote any day!!
Back to the Cornflakes story – Nutritionist Laura de la Harpe told me that cornflakes were invented to stop masturbation so I had to research some more!
Doctor Kellogg was a doctor in America in the 1890’s. He advocated good nutrition and exercise and treated people holistically.
He believed in vegetarianism and abstinence from alcohol and tobacco. He believed in sunlight therapy, breathing exercises and good digestion.
All sounds good to me 🙂
He invented cornflakes with his brother as a way for the poor to eat a good breakfast.
He had strong religious views and one of the reasons for his simple diet was (he believed) to reduce sexual stimulation.
He believed a plain diet would reduce the sexual urge. He had some pretty strong views about male and female circumcision 🙁
According to wikipedia (?) He was an advocate of sexual abstinence and devoted much of his time to discouraging sexual activity.
Apparently he was a zealous campaigner against masturbation or self abuse as he called it……ha!!
So whether cornflakes were actually invented to discourage masturbation or not I don’t know but Mr Kelloggs sure is interesting 🙂
Sex and libido for the older female is a subject that is not talked about enough and I’m hoping to get a guest blog to talk more about it 🙂

Great night, wasn’t it, Tanith? Victoria Lehman took the biscuit, icing on the cake, whatever. Hilarious!
Sounds like Mr Kellog had serious issues. Wonder what happened in his childhood?
